The God of Small Things

Such a wonderful book; you're transported to the steaming gardens and rivers of southern India from the get go; the language is creative and, at times, almost prose-like and there is a feel of real mastery in Arundhati Roy's ability to cut back and forth in time whilst still maintaining a narrative journey that binds together. It almost feels like it's written backwards.
